IN DESIGNING THEIR HOME,THE PAPPASES HAD A PLAN TO INCORPORATE
TECHNOLOGY, RECOGNIZING HOW NATURALLY ITS BECOME A PART OF
THEIR LIVES. HERE’S HOW THEY RECALL THEIR ELECTRONICS EVOLUTION.
1983
The year they got married, Nancy and Larry bought their first TV
together. "I think it was a

-inch we probably bought at Macy’s,” Larry says.
1999
The couple got their first home computer ("It was an old Apple, big and
boxy,” Nancy says) and set up an e-mail account.
2003
Nancy and Larry purchased the Mac computer they still use in their
home office. They added their current PC in
2 0 0 6
.
2005
Leah got an iPod; both kids and Nancy each have one now. Nancy loves
the ease, but admits she still has record albums in a family room cabinet and a
turntable in the garage.
2008
A Wii console was a Christmas gift. Nancy’s favorite game is golf, though
“Luke can really cream me,” she says.
2009
Leah received a laptop for her
16
th birthday. Also, Luke got a cell phone,
while Nancy upgraded to an iPhone. She was sold on getting one while at a
business meeting where a colleague pulled up websites on the spot. “That’s
liberating to me,” she says.
2010
Nancy bought an iPad. She’s still learning its features, but already enjoys
handling her usual business tasks (as well as watching an occasional YouTube
video) in bed. fib
